2006
International Games Team Chosen
The 2006 USPC International Games Team was chosen in
tryouts hosted by the Antietam Pony Club of the Maryland Region over the
weekend of September 23-25, 2005.
The first to hear the final results were the tryout
candidates themselves. Results were mailed to the tryout candidates on
Saturday, October 1, 2005.
The 2006 USPC International Games Team, slated to
compete against teams from Australia, Great Britain and Canada next year
(final dates still to be announced) will travel to Great Britain for the
tour followed by the competition. The team chaperone and coach have not
yet been chosen; applications are currently being accepted for both
positions.
The 2006 USPC International Games Team chosen is as

18 candidates from 13 different regions were invited
to try out for the team. Each tryout candidate was recommended by their
DC, their RS and their Coach, all as specified in the USPC Games
Handbook. After arriving at the tryout destination on Friday,
September 23, they met the tryout Organizer, Anita Vassallo, the seven
judges, as well as the Impartial Observer. Formal interviews with the
entire judging committee occurred on Friday evening, and the candidates
all went to their host families for a night's rest. Saturday morning,
everyone gathered at the fairgrounds site where the mounted portion of
the tryouts were held (located nearby in West Virginia). Each tryout
candidate was observed closely by all judges riding a variety of
different ponies demonstrating a variety of different skills. That
evening, everyone relaxed and enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs; the
original plans to swim were scuttled by the unseasonably cold weather.
Finally, the candidates met once more before being picked up by their
parents or were taken to the airport.
The team organizing the tryouts from Antietam P.C.
and the Maryland Region are to be commended for a job well done. The
organization was flawless, the ponies all arrived and were ready to go
on Saturday (with a spare to boot!), and the accommodations for both the
candidates and the judges was both more than adequate and the
hospitality was gracious. The overall tryout Organizer was Anita
Vassallo.
